Ivy League schools are in the news—again. With the reinstatement of standardized testing requirements (Dartmouth College, Yale University, Brown University, Cornell University, and Harvard), evolving admissions policies, rising tuition costs, and entanglements with campus protesters (Columbia University’s mixed responses to pro-Palestinian protests led to student arrests and cancellation of its main graduation ceremony) many are losing faith in the Ivy system. The public is now wondering what alternatives there are to Ivy League schools—ones that provide a holistic education that facilitates ingenious problem-solvers and driven individuals that all employers crave. According to Forbes, the New Ivies are the solution.
What are the New Ivies?
The New Ivies consist of Public and Private institutions.
Public Ivies
*Forbes did not analyze University of California universities and military academies in their search for new Ivies because those institutions do not consider test scores in admissions.
Private Ivies
*Forbes did not analyze schools with fewer than 4,000 students and Ivy-plus schools Stanford, MIT, Duke, and the University of Chicago in their search for new Ivies.
Will I Have the Same Education at the New Ivies?
When considering research areas, research achievements, cost of attendance, and various factors we highly encourage students to apply to the schools that suit them best–regardless of whether the student attends an Ivy League school. The education a student gains from a university highly depends on the student’s tenacity and willingness to seek educational experiences for themselves. We encourage students to truly consider what it is they want to achieve by attending college and applying to institutions that fit their interests.
